History and mission
The Walter Baldessarini Foundation is an independent institution whose primary mission is the preservation and sustainable safeguarding of Walter Baldessarini’s artistic heritage. Its activities notably include organizing exhibitions in collaboration with public and private institutions and museums. In addition, the Foundation is responsible for the cataloguing, documentation, and archiving of Baldessarini’s entire body of work, promotes research into his life and practice, publishes related studies, and manages all copyrights.
The Foundation’s activities began as early as 2019 with the opening of the Walter Baldessarini Archive and the systematic registration of all works. Denny Staschitz, President of the Foundation since its establishment, had already been overseeing the work of the Italian artist Walter Baldessarini for more than ten years and, following the artist’s passing in 2022, also assumed responsibility for managing the entire estate. From the outset, he worked with a small group of experts on the careful archiving of the complete oeuvre, with the aim of preserving and enhancing it over the long term. Over the years, this effort has resulted in an extensive body of work, compiled in a continuously updated database and intended for publication and further development in future editions of the collected works issued by the Foundation.
The Foundation also plans future projects in the fields of cultural promotion and social engagement, particularly through exchange and collaboration within artistic initiatives.
The Foundation also holds its own collection of key works by Baldessarini, which can be viewed by appointment.
